DECK Théodore - Research Egyptian cat by Théodore DECK

Rare ceramic representation of the speckled gray color of the cat, model inspired by the goddess Bastet, an important deity of ancient Egypt. Piece signed Théodore Deck hollow under the base. Théodore Deck born in 1823 in Guebwiller in Alsace, died in Paris in 1891, internationally renowned ceramist. His research on the colors used on ceramics from China and ancient Persia established his notoriety. He perfected the famous "Blue Deck" and developed a series of decorations on the theme of very popular Japaneseism at the end of the 19th century. He won numerous awards at international events on the decorative arts and medals for participation in international exhibitions. He was appointed, alongside his activity as a ceramist, director of the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres.
